Model

October 2018 by Guido Stazzoni

I was 12 the first time I did a photoshoot. I was 13 when I signed my first contract. I was 14 when I shot the first huge national campaign. I was 15 the first time I shot for Vogue Italia. And the rest is history 🙂

I am 30 today, starting a new career. I say it’s my third career in modelling. The first one I was a regular size model, the second career I was a plus size model… this time I am someone in between, we’re called “inbetweenies”.
Throughout my 17 years of modelling I had the opportunity to live and work in New York, signed with Wilhelmina Models. Our collaboration lasted 3 years, after which I decided I preferred to live and work in Europe. I am signed with Milk Management in London, which is where I have worked the most throughout the last years.

I am a chameleon.

I would’ve never imagined to have been working for so long. Today it’s very rare to have a lasting career in fashion, as a model especially. There is such a big competition and the market wants a new face every three months, plus there is Instagram ruling: the number of followers can get you get the job. This means models are valued for the number of people following them, nevermind whether these followers are real or bought. Thank goodness that doesn’t apply to all clients. I come from a different era of models, when I started there were no such things as google maps, Ipad, social media etc. Models had to pass at the agency in the morning to get their casting sheet printed and then they would look at the address on a physical map. They couldn’t “sell” themselves on Instagram, but had to rely solely on their agent… and agents had to have skillzzz. When I started as a model, it was difficult to become a model: you either had it or not. And if you didn’t have it, you just sucked it up, went home and did something else with yourself. Now, those who get rejected by the agencies, go home and open an instagram account, grow over 10’000 followers and go back to the agency… which many times, signs them and puts them under the category “Influencers”.

I am a model. And an actress.

If there is one thing I know about me is that I am extremely dedicated to my job. I believe that if I hadn’t been disciplined I wouldn’t have lasted 17 years!!! I have many regular clients and that says a lot. Then of course I’m not perfect and unfortunately I have days when I struggle to be nice and polite lol but I managed to learn to control my emotions 🙂 In this, modelling has been a real school for me. It taught me so much on human interaction and team work. It taught me the power of imagination in creating a photo, an image. It taught me to be present.

I love making beautiful photographs.

I love beauty. And I look for beauty everywhere and especially in everyone. Beauty is an energy, a frequency. It’s something that comes from within and you cannot grasp it nor define it as it loves to change form and sex and size and color. Beauty hides in each one and if we get in touch with it, it will manifest through us. Look for beauty and you will find it.
